CITO Olaf Kolkman Speaking about Collaborative Security at TNC 2016

The Internet Society’s CITO Olaf Kolkman will be speaking about Collaborative Security at TNC 2016 during the plenary session on Tuesday, 14 June 2016 from 11:00-11:45AM CEST/UTC+2.

Olaf will talk about how Internet has been a powerful driver for social, technical and economic innovation based on concepts of openness and permissiveness. However, these also contribute to increased threats to its infrastructure as security responses tend to be targeted at locally and with limited consideration for the global elements such the name servers or routing system that need protection. It is increasingly important that operators of these systems consider the effects on the wider Internet, reflecting on resiliency, outward facing security and governance issues, and Olaf will discuss the plans to help collaborative security initiatives gain traction.

TNC is one of the leading conferences for research and education networking, and attracts around 700 participants from National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), universities, research institutions and industry in Europe and around the world. This year’s conference is being held on 12-16 June 2016, in Prague, Czech Republic, but if you can’t make it in person then you can follow it via the web stream. More information is available on the TNC website (https://tnc16.geant.org/)

There’s also a couple of other interesting sessions with ISOC participation during the conference.

The preceding Sunday, 12 June 2016 (all day) is the REFEDS meeting that will involve Steve Olshansky and Karen O’Donoghue. REFEDS brings together the operators of research and education identity federations to discuss common practices, policies, and procedures, which ISOC is pleased to partner with as a Platinum sponsor. The full programme and other information can be found at https://refeds.org/meetings/32nd-meeting-june-2016.

Then on Monday, 13 June 2016, from 09:00-10:30AM CEST/UTC+2 is the IETF Update session where both Olaf Kolkman and Steve Olshansky will be talking about trust-related initiatives including DNS-based Authentication of Named Entities (DANE) and Factors of Trust (aka Vectors of Trust – VoT).
