Get involved in IGF preparations, OC and MAG meeting, 20-22 May, Geneva

The marathon of Internet governance events continues this month in Geneva. Starting today will be the IGF MAG and Open Consultations (20-22 May). Below are a few pointers to help you navigate the discussions.

The task of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) will be to continue preparations for the 2015 Internet Governance Forum (IGF), to be held 10-13 November 2015 in Brazil. The group will focus on finalizing the event’s agenda including the Main Sessions, and reviewing workshop proposals.

An important discussion will also take place on next steps for developing IGF outputs, such as the IGF Best Practices, a format that focuses on sharing lessons learned from dealing with tangible issues such as Spam mitigation or IXP development. MAG members will also have to decide next steps to develop a new type of outcome, i.e. ” Policy menus for Connecting the Next Billion“. Regional and national IGFs have been invited to share their perspectives and many of them have already picked-up the theme. The next step will be to involve all stakeholders through a public call for input and to agree on a methodology for drafting the ” Policy menus “.

Finally, we also expect a discussion about the relationship between the IGF and the NETmundial Initiative (NMI).

How you can get involved :

  •  Participate remotely in today’s IGF Open Consultation and the MAG meetings on Thursday and Friday.
  • Join the Best Practices Forums on the following themes: Developing IXPs, Mitigating Spam, Developing Multistakeholder Mechanisms, Establishing CERTS, and Implementing IPv6.
  • Get ready to share your vision of ” Policy Menus for Connecting the Next Billion ” by joining this mailing list.

Even as the IGF consultations get underway, we are already preparing for the following milestone: next week’s WSIS Forum  (25-29 May). More information will be posted soon about that event on our WSIS page.
