ISOC Sudan celebrates Internet Week 2014

Yesterday, the Sudan Internet Society chapter began celebrating Internet week 2014, which runs until 4 December 2014. The first day was dedicated to different activities and discussions about Internet and communication related issues. The day was also an opportunity for new members to register to the chapter.

Dawit Bekele, the Internet Society’s Regional Director for Africa, made a remote presentation during the opening session of the Sudan Internet week. Bekele reinforced the importance of the issues addressed during the event, and invited the audience to recognize and protect the core Internet principles that are critical for the continued use, growth and evolution of the Internet.

On its first day, the event drew more than 200 participants representing various stakeholder groups, including the telecom companies (Canar, Sudatel, Zain, Mtn), government sectors, students and other local organizations.

The Sudanese Minister of Science and Communications sponsored this event, which was organized by the ISOC Sudan chapter.
