Routing and IPv6 Training Courses at NANOG 62

Routing Fundamentals

This course is developed to teach the theory and practices behind designing a reliable and stable network. In addition, the course addresses best practices and techniques for troubleshooting and maintenance of these networks ensuring practical and reliable routing fundamentals are applied.

The course is outlined in seven-parts that include both lecture and hands-on experiences to ensure attendees gain the full grasp of the concepts discussed. The course outline is as follows:

  • The OSI Model
  • Lab 1: build the basic OSPF network
  • Principles of routing – Lab 2:  build basic iBGP with route-reflection
  • BGP in detail – Lab 3: build eBGP peering with basic policy
  • Routing policy in detail
  • Peering Negotiations
  • Lab 4: Build the negotiated network

IPv6 Routing Fundamentals

This course is designed for network and system engineers looking to understand the new features and operational characteristics of networks that include IPv6. It will provide a solid introduction of IPv6 and the foundational knowledge required to configure networking software, common operating systems and devices in order to migrate and support IPv6.

The course is outlined in seven-parts that include both lecture and hands-on experiences to ensure attendees gain the full grasp of the concepts discussed. The course outline is as follows:

  • IPv6 address overview
  • Bootstrapping IPv6-related protocols and mechanisms
  • Overview of routing protocols and changes since IPv4 in RIP, OSPF, ISIS and BGP
  • Simple IP routing Transition mechanisms
