World IPv6 Launch on June 6, 2012, To Bring Permanent IPv6 Deployment

WorldIPv6Launch 1

Today marks the start of a new era for IPv6.  Building on the great success of last year’s World IPv6 Day, this year’s “World IPv6 Launch” will bring together major Internet service providers (ISPs), home networking equipment manufacturers, and web companies around the world  to permanently enable IPv6 for their products and services!

No more “test flight”… this is the real deal!

The date is June 6, 2012, and you can get involved by visiting:

www.worldipv6launch.org

There you will find information about how to register your website, network or home router as a supporter of the effort.  You will also find downloadable images you can use to show your support.

To stay up with what is going on with the effort, you can follow the activities and momentum on Twitter at:

The World IPv6 Launch effort has already received significant backing from major Internet companies. The initial list of committed Internet Service Providers includes:

  • AT&T
  • Comcast
  • Free Telecom
  • Internode
  • KDDI
  • Time Warner Cable
  • XS4ALL

The initial list of networking equipment providers includes:

  • Cisco
  • D-Link

The initial list of content providers includes:

The initial list of content delivery networks includes:

  • Akamai
  • Limelight

These are all just initial lists of who has stepped up and said they will be joining the World IPv6 Launch effort.  I expect these lists to grow rapidly as more and more companies join the effort.

Here at Deploy360, we’ll keep providing more and more information to help you get your sites and products working with IPv6 so that you, too, can join the World IPv6 Launch!  Visit the IPv6 resources we have on the site (including the Basics, Case Studies, Other Sites, Statistics and Training) – and please do let us know if you need more information.

We’re looking forward to the success of World IPv6 Launch and look forward to helping you all participate!

Did you know the new web site is not working correctly? I’m getting the response,

“Invalid URL

The requested URL “/”, is invalid.
Reference #9.a594ef50.1326822129.1cf67f7″

This is from the UK, using Safari on MacOS X as a browser.

Yes, we’re unfortunately very aware the worldipv6launch.org site is down. The traffic was much higher than the team involved with that site expected. They’re working on a fix right now and expect to have it back up soon.

Adrian,

Thanks… and yes, the team involved with the WorldIPv6Day site is working on getting it back online.

Dan
